Day 365/365 Obscura
I said this at the end of my first 365, and I’ll say it again. It’s hard to end a project that spans over an entire year of your life. I’ve had many battles with myself over trying to find a good way to take what made this year different and put it in a single photograph. This year was full of newness and refreshment, something that I needed in my life a great deal. There were so many changes this year that my head is still spinning, but it really is just the beginning of the rest of my life. You could say that 365 Reloaded documented what could possibly be the most important year of my life. I mean, I got married, I graduated, and I learned that you can’t spend all of your money on film and Polaroids.
I ended this project doing a type of photography I had never attempted before: Camera Obscura. I donned the traditional Blue Button-down of Finality (worn at the end of my first 365) and turned my office into a giant pinhole camera, with the image of what’s outside my window projected on my wall. It was more work that I expected, but I think it was the perfect way to end this series. I spent the entire year trying new things with my art, and I had about a thousand new life experiences along the way. Why not end my project with something new?
Starting January 1, 2015, my new year-long project, IV, begins. It’s going to be different than anything I’ve done before, but it will be challenging for sure. For now, you can follow me on Instagram (@willmalone) or sign up for my newsletter! (in the side bar)
ere's a couple outakes, and a photo without me in it so you can see the details:
