To those who emailed me to be part of my next year-long project, Thanks! Keep them coming!
I've gotten a lot of questions about it, and like most things, your questions have made me force myself to define it a little better in my mind. I started this project without fully knowing what it is, or what it will become. I had a seed of an idea, but didn't know anything other than I was going to spend 2015 working through it.
Now, I've had a couple people ask if this project was going to be like Humans of New York. Here's my answer: nope. I love HONY, but it's not my desire to try and do a Will Malone-ified version of the legendary project. The difference is that I'm hoping to focus on portraiture, with a photo that reveals something about the subjects personality without many words involved.
Concerning the format, it's near impossible to have a new photo of a new person EVERY SINGLE DAY for 365 days when you have a job and a life. If I was getting paid to work on this project I could see myself potentially making this happen, but for now, it seems pretty impossible. I believe I have more than proved that I can put a new photo up every day, so you will be getting a new photo every day. It will be related, maybe a behind the scenes of a photoshoot or an alternate photo of someone, but chances are, I'm not going to be able to have someone new every day. I'm going to stick loosely to this format, but rest assured, you will be getting something new every day.
I want to be more organized about this project, so I will be creating an archiving system. For each portrait, I'll be making two prints. One for the subject, and one for me. I want to create a book or a way I can present these at the end of the year. Also, I have a guest book for each person to take up a page with a drawing or whatever they want.
If you emailed me and you haven't heard from me: You have been added to my list. I have created a "hit list" of sorts, and you will be in my project. I've got a year to cover, so I have a lot of time to get to you. (If you are a close friend or relative, you're probably going to be part of this, whether you like it or not)
I've mastered the whole "taking a photo every day thing", to the point where I just do so out of muscle memory. (I've had to force myself not to take a photo yesterday or today) Now, I need to master the whole "organized photo series" thing. I want a body of work based on a concept that all fits together, and gives me something to present at the end. This is my dream project, and I really want you to be a part of it.
I've never been so nervous or excited about a project. I always have a fear of failure in the back of my mind, but this time, my fear of failure is constantly nagging me, because I really really want this to work. Also, I have people involved, so I can't quit or else everyone will know.
