I'm not really a fan of Mike Pence politically or the Trump Administration in general, but I'd like to defend the Vice-President for a moment.
"Allegations" have come out that Mike Pence refuses to eat dinner with the opposite sex unless his wife is there, and to a similar degree will not drink alcohol unless his wife was there. Who has ever heard of such a thing? No one, because this is probably far more common than anyone realizes, (I know Billy Graham shares the same philosophies about himself) and this would not be news in any other year than 2017.
That said, we live in a world where Buzzfeed makes a hit piece on Chip and Joanne Gaines pastor and his belief that homosexuality is wrong. How outlandish and unusual that a Christian pastor is against homosexuality!
This is a common Christian belief and protection against sexual sin; it doesn't assume that Mike Pence feels like women are throwing themselves at him all the time, it just assumes that he wants to keep himself in check. Infidelity happens everywhere all the time, and it seems particularly infectious in the government. It comes out of respect for his wife and a knowledge of himself and his tendencies.
In the post-Bill Clinton world, this should be refreshing and encouraging.
I hate to make this imaginary argument, but I have a weird feeling that if Mike Pence was muslim and had similar rules for himself, this would not be news.
In a culture that desires to remove all rules and norms and strives to ignore freedom of speech and religion, we should applaud Christians who set boundaries for themselves in this era full of impossible temptation.
I'd also like to say, that his rules come at zero consequence to anyone. No one is oppressed by it, and if that's what he feels like he needs to do to protect his marriage, then that's what he needs to do.
